I've never tried Opera before, but it seems to be bloody quick. I'm quite taken with Mouse Gestures already. 8)
I've tried it on a few of my intranet pages and it isn't running some of the javascript - nor is it reporting any errors. That could well be my fault though. I'll check.
I really, really love the navigation buttons. |

| This is where I put up the beta warning. Opera 7 is a *very* major upgrade, but it is also very much a beta. I have used it for several months now and it is stable. While it is unlikely to do any untoward actions, like taking over your mind and force you to eat more carrots (unless you have the "vegetable" option checked), do save it to a separate directory (it isn't big, you can afford it), and don't use files you care about (bookmarks, email) without backup. |

Wow! That new look is a major improvement over the old one. It is so fast to. I click the shortcut, and then BOOM it's right there. Unbeleiveable. Opera just keeps getting better and better. _________________ Rob |

Everybody must want Seven. My download rate is 549 B/s.
Yes, you read that right. No, there is no typo.
[edit] Now it has picked up to 4.5 KB/s. _________________ --jmikec

But right now is the US post-release surge (morning and lunch hour), this would be to be expected even though it is massively mirrored. Four-five hours ago should be a cinch (before people literally woke up to the fact).
If that is a consolation, Opera 7 is smaller than Opera 6... |

Well, I finally got a chance to install Opera 7 that I downloaded this morning. I have visited one site - this one.
All I can say is: LOVE IT!
More later. _________________ --jmikec

Can't figure out how to get rid of that annoying sidebar navigation. It reminds me of MSN Explorer which I don't use because of the permanent sidebar.
It does not pick up the page margins from my external CSS like 6 did.
It does not handle graphics very well, starts rendering them large then trims them down..weird effect.
It is faster. But it's not necessarily better. Well see in the final version.
ps. Finally got rid of that irritating "hotlist"? Don't like that name makes it hard to find the control. _________________ I was annoyed by the fact that God was testing my atheism by sending aliens to my door to ask for proof of his existence. hiveminds.co.uk |

If you don't know what it's called, you can always right-click* (Opera uses the right button and the keyboard intensely). In any case F4 toggles it. This is a command you might get used to, as the functionality of the Hotlist grows on you, at least has on me. I've trimmed away and minimalized most of the chrome (the View window is a good place to start). What I have kept is the Hotlist (gone from 'always off' to 'mostly on'), the Page bar and a customized Navigation bar.
Users of the previous version of Opera might want to look at the changelogs.
(*) Beta warning: Not all right-click menus are fully functional yet, but you can always make your own, all menus are configurable. |

Just click on my logo. The first two frames are CSS the last has the margins in the body tag attributes. You can see the difference. _________________ I was annoyed by the fact that God was testing my atheism by sending aliens to my door to ask for proof of his existence. hiveminds.co.uk |

I used Opera 4 back in the day for testing, I downloaded 6 a while ago for the same reasons, just testing pages.
Honestly, God bless all of you for finding something y'all like, but I just don't understand the cult-like following...I really don't.
That said, I will download 7 for curiosity.
sheesh, 8kb/s on a T3 connection...whoa. _________________ Dan

I don't know about you, but the email client and web browser are the two programs I use by far the most, so I'd like them to be good. |

Oh, yes, me as well. My email, browser and text editor are always open...always...
Outlook 2000, NetCaptor and NoteTab.
NetCaptor is a multi-page tabbed interface browser front end that rides on IE's rendering engine. Plus has a pop-up killer and some other cool features. I have been using that for a few years now.
What is so groovy about Opera exactly? To me (don't take this personally please) the interface looks amatuerish and it didn't seem to load or render any faster or better than NetCaptor/IE. And actually, some CSS seemed to not work right.
Am I missing something? Please, clue me in. All I really want is one browser that holds the standards...but none seem to do that. Everything has it's weak spots...I will check out your link...thanks _________________ Dan
